Dear Colleague 27 August 2009
On 22 October 2009 our former Field Officer for the Yorkshire & Humberside District, Mr Roy Barson MBE will reach the age of 90 and the District felt it appropriate to have a “reception” in Roy’s honour to mark such a great achievement. If you have not seen him recently, he is in fine form, fit and well, still driving and living life to the full.
The reception will take place on Saturday 10 October 2009, coinciding with the meeting of the District Executive already booked for that date. The Executive will meet at 1.00pm. There will be a short act of worship and thanksgiving at 4.00pm in the Church followed by a buffet tea in the hall. All this will take place at The King’s Way Church, Wesley Street, Ossett WF5 8ET, HQ of the 1st Ossett Company.
It is hoped that this will be a real celebration in the life of the District. As it is now 25 years since Roy retired, it will inevitably be the “more mature” officers who will remember the magnificent job done by Roy as our Field Officer. I am fully aware that there will be many current officers and leaders who will say “who is Roy Barson”. This is the natural way and order of things. I know however that there are many many officers, former officers and friends of the Brigade in Yorkshire & Humberside who will want to share in this occasion.
Please pass the word around – Battalion Presidents and Secretaries please make this known in your Battalions. Please arrive by 4pm for the service and then the reception afterwards. It is anticipated that the event will end by 6.30pm.
For catering purposes we need to know if you are coming. Please email me, rob.lolley@gmail.com, with numbers. Do please actively publicise this to make it an event worthy of Roy.
Yours in BB fellowship
Rob Lolley
District President
