The Make a Difference (MAD) Award is a National Award for a young person that ‘makes a difference’ in their community. For England there were 8 nominations.
Owen Hughes of the 24th & 5th Hull companies was presented with the award by the Mayor of Calderdale Cllr Ann McAllister at Halifax Town Hall on 14 July 2010. This preceded the Districts Queen’s Badge Presentation.
Owen received his Queen’s Badge in 2009 and carries on serving the community being involved with the Street Angel project in Hull. After BB, on Fridays, he goes to ‘work’ helping those who may be a little worst for wear, following a night out. He provides water, first aid and flip flops to young ladies who have either lost their shoes or are stumbling in their heals. He also listens to peoples problems and ignores those calling for ‘Charlie’s Angels.’
By coincidence Street Angels started around 4 years ago in Halifax.
