The Boys' Brigade

The Boys' Brigade is a Uniformed Christian Youth Organisation. Staffed by volunteers it provides a wide range of activities for 5 to 18 year olds. It was founded by William Alexander Smith in Glasgow, Scotland in 1883. The Object he, and his first Officers, devised still holds true today. Though over the last 125 years the ways in which it is achieved have changed. The Object of the Boys' Brigade is;

"The advancement of Christ's Kingdom among Boys and the promotion of habits of Obedience, Reverence, Discipline, Self Respect and all that tends towards a true Christian Manliness."

In order to achieve this object The Boys' Brigade provides the following:

  • Activities, that broaden the educational, physical, spiritual, adventurous and community aspects of life;
  • Leadership, skills that are developed so that boys become contributors to the life of their community;
  • Encouragement, so that boys become involved in their Company, Church and community;
  • Training, to support boys and volunteer leaders with skills and resources, for their life in the Boys' Brigade and beyond.
