Camp Craft Certificate

Who is it for?

A valid Camp Craft Certificate is required by any Officer who wishes to lead a canvas camp. The Certificate lasts for 5 years and can be renewed for a further period of 5 years on the submission of completed log sheets to BB HQ.

At a canvas camp at least one Officer attending must also hold a valid Holiday Leadership Certificate.

What it Involves

During the course participants will complete a number of modules, covering the following aspects of leading a camp under canvas:

  • the pitching and stricking of tents;
  • site selection & visits;
  • tent accomadation;
  • site layout;
  • cooking and food;
  • safety;
  • role of advance parties.

The Camp Craft Certificate is part of the Holiday Leadership Scheme, which comprises both the Camp Craft and Holiday Leadership Certificate's.

Renewal of the Certificate

An Officer may renew their Camp Craft Certificate by submitting the appropriate log sheets detailing the camps they have attended and the responsibilities they have undertaken. The minimum number of camps required to be submitted for each period of 5 years is one. If no holiday is attended during the 5 year period the Certificate will be no longer valid. In this case the Officer will be required to attend a Camp Craft training course to regain the Certificate.
