Cober Hill Residential Courses

Cober Hill situated on the coast at the edge of the North Yorks Moors, has been used as the venue for the District's annual weekend residential courses for a number of years. Though the District ran two sets of courses in October and December, rising costs have meant that only the December weekend courses are still held. The course fee covers the costs incurred in running the courses, the acommodation and meals on Saturday and Sunday.

The facilities at Cober Hill are extensive and allow for a wide range of courses to be held. With a total of 63 bedrooms, all en-suite, giving 140 bed spaces. Cober Hill's main building has bedrooms on three floors; 8 single bedded, 15 twin bedded, 2 double and 7 family. There are two dining rooms, a theatre, conservatory, boardroom and three lounges.

The Courses

Courses are normally held over the first weekend in December. Courses run from 10.00am to 6.00pm on the Saturday and 10.00am to 4.00pm on Sunday. Breaks for refreshments and lunch on Saturday and Sunday are included.

The range of courses is extensive and over the weekend there are normally 4 courses running concurrently. Two of the courses are YLT and the Captains/Sectional Management Modules. The remaining two courses vary from year to year and it is not unusual for them to respond to new initiatives from Brigade Headquarters. Examples of recent courses are; The Discover Programme, Basic Expedition & Outdoor Leadership, The Duke of Edinburgh's Award, Dealing with Challenging Behaviour. Details of the courses to be held at Cober Hill can be found in the Training Directory.

The District Training Convenor is always happy to receive suggestions for future courses to be held over the weekend and, with sufficient interest and if appropriate trainers can be found, then the course may well go ahead.
