What it's all About

The Queen's Badge is the highest award a young person can achieve within the Boys' Brigade. The first badge was awarded in 1914, then called the King’s Badge. In 1952, with the ascension of Queen Elizabeth II to the throne, the award became the Queen's Badge. It brings out the best in a young person - active leadership, commitment, and making a worthwhile contribution to the community.

Only those who hold the President’s Badge or Duke of Edinburgh’s Bronze Award, plus other elements, can undertake the Queen’s Badge.

The current requirements for gaining the award are:

  • Already hold the President’s Badge;
  • Attend a Queen’s Badge Leadership course;
  • Undertake some practical leadership in the Company;
  • Do 30 hours of Community Service;
  • Do two activities from the following sections: Expedition, Skills, Physical Recreation;
  • Be recommended by your Captain;
  • Attend a Queen’s Badge Completion course.

Completing it is a great achievement for all young people and is something all should aim for. Officers should talk to their Battalion Advisor, and then get your young people to take part - you won’t regret it!
